Ankara, 15 May 2026 — Director General of the National Communications Authority, Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, is participating in the 26th Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-26), organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Ankara, Türkiye.
The annual global forum brings together heads of regulatory authorities, policymakers, industry leaders, and digital stakeholders from around the world to exchange knowledge and discuss emerging regulatory trends shaping the future of digital transformation. This year's symposium is held under the theme "Navigating the Digital Frontier," focusing on regulatory pathways towards a resilient and inclusive digital future.
On the first day of the symposium, the Director General participated in the Heads of Regulators' Executive Round-table, a high-level session that convenes regulatory leaders to discuss key priorities and challenges facing the global digital ecosystem.
The Director General also served as a panelist in Session 3, “Experimenting for Regulatory Excellence,” alongside counterparts from South Africa, Poland, and Saudi Arabia, as well as a representative of the World Economic Forum. During the session, he addressed the prerequisites for regulatory sandboxes, regional cooperation on cross-border services such as satellite broadband and digital financial services, and the importance of designing regulatory experiments that help close, rather than widen, digital gaps.
Participation in GSR-26 reflects Somalia's growing engagement in global digital policy discussions and its continued commitment to strengthening the country's telecommunications and digital regulatory landscape.
